We are LIVE! Radio Tamworth has Launched.

People living in Tamworth have a brand new radio station!

Radio Tamworth hit the airwaves at 6pm on December 1 and can be heard on 106.8 FM and on online. It promises to be ‘The voice in the local community” by truly representing the news and views of Tamworth people.

The not-for-profit station will be operated entirely by volunteers and will broadcast 24 hours a day. Listeners will recognise several familiar voices who have been signed up to present shows while a host of new presenters will be heard on the radio for the first time.

Radio Tamworth Managing Director Alex Farrell has spearheaded the move to revive the  local radio service. He said: “Tamworth really deserves a dedicated local radio service that is part of the fabric of the town, run by local people, for local people.

“That is why we have been working hard over the past few weeks to get the radio station up and running and have had great support from local businesses, residents and volunteers. I would like to thank everyone that has backed us including Tamworth Mayor John Chesworth and leader of Tamworth Borough Council, Danny Cook.

“We are aiming to truly be a radio station for Tamworth – there will be local news, we’ll be promoting local events and local places and our presenters will be getting out and about in the town. There will also be good quality music; songs you’ll know and can sing along to, and we’ll have specialist shows in the evenings.

“But as I have always said since committing myself to this project – everything comes down to money, and we continue to need funds to survive. I am appealing to businesses across Tamworth to come forward who can help with funding in return for on-air and online advertising. We are also looking for financial support in the form of sponsorship and donations and if anyone can help it will be most welcome.
